Today the problem is not minor. Corruption is rife, President Alvaro Colom, has created an entity of government "social cohesion" and "Mi Familia Progresa" allocation of several hundred –some journalists say thousands- of millions of Quetzales -currency- his wife, director of the program, administered arbitrarily. There is no accountability for the use of public money in this entity. The excuse to avoid red tape and expedite the process as they would otherwise delay the use of these resources in social work “necessary to help the poor”. The amount of public funds allocated to the office of the president's wife is more than any budget of any government secretariat. According to the Free Press newspaper publishes information about the funds is at odds with data from the Ministry of Finance of the government.

The brother of the wife’s president –lawyer- claimed 24 million Quetzales -three million U.S. dollars- for legal advice to the Ministry of Education, with the backing of the leader of the state teachers' union. Arce's family denied that possibility because of the self-esteem of the journalist.

The level of insecurity is alarming, according to the newspaper “Prensa Libre” every day between 17 and 24 murders, not to mention extortion, kidnapping and robbery. The president Colom promised that in one single year a decrease in violence since the fight with "intelligence" happened. Unemployment is at its highest level. Companies have ceased operation. The President Colom through their congressmen constantly tries to raise taxes by all means, promised in elections would not do it.

A couple of months, the Guatemalan attorney Rodrigo Rosenberg was killed in Guatemala City. Had reason to believe that his life was in danger, he made a video in which he accused the president Colom of the fact, his wife and senior officials, the reason, according to the lawyer, was the information and evidence that he possessed the murder of his boss-prominent industrial - Musa Kalil and his daughter Marjorie. Also revealed, that senior government officials were involved in money laundering activities and links with organized crime. The video is filmed two days before being killed, to be submitted along with proof of their allegations. The evidence that nothing is known publicly. The investigations of this case no results. No prisoners. No official mentioned in the video has resigned. The system of institutions of Guatemala is in a deep political crisis; with much pessimism Guatemalans say in every government, "this is worse than the previous one."
